For the Beef

  • ¼ cup Cornstarch

For the Sauce

  • ½ cup Soy Sauce delivers umami richness
  • ¼ cup Brown Sugar
  • 4 cloves Garlic fresh garlic recommended
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger fresh ginger preferred
  • 2 tablespoons Vegetable Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Oil

For the Garnish

  • 2 tablespoons Scallion sliced
  • 1 tablespoon Sesame Seeds toasted

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the beef thinly against the grain into bite-sized pieces.
  • Season beef pieces with salt and pepper and coat with cornstarch.
  • Mince garlic and ginger; combine with vegetable oil.
  • Place seasoned beef into the slow cooker.
  • Whisk together garlic, ginger, brown sugar, soy sauce, and a splash of water, and pour over the beef.
  • Cook on high for 2.5 hours or low for 4-5 hours, stirring halfway through.
  • Garnish with scallions and sesame seeds before serving over rice.

Notes

For added texture, include steamed broccoli or bell peppers during the last 30 minutes of cooking. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 2 months.
