Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch Can substitute with all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Ground cinnamon Can use nutmeg or apple pie spice blend

For the Pastry

  • 1 package Frozen puff pastry Store-bought recommended
  • 1 large Egg For egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon Water

For the Crumble Topping

  • 2 tablespoons Unsalted butter
  • ¼ cup Brown sugar
  • ½ cup All-purpose flour

For the Frosting

  • 1 cup Powdered sugar Can reduce for less sweetness
  • 2 tablespoons Heavy cream Can use milk for a lighter version

Instructions

Steps

  • Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Melt unsalted butter in a skillet and sauté sliced Granny Smith apples for about 5 minutes until they begin to soften. Mix in brown sugar, cornstarch, and ground cinnamon; stir until thickened and let cool.
  • Unfold the frozen puff pastry and cut it into 12 rectangles. Score a border and poke holes in the center.
  • Spoon the cooled apple mixture into the center of each pastry rectangle, brush the edges with egg wash.
  • Combine unsalted butter, brown sugar, and all-purpose flour for the crumble topping. Sprinkle over the apple filling.
  • Bake for 20 minutes until golden brown. Let cool for about 10 minutes.
  • Whisk powdered sugar and heavy cream until smooth, drizzle over cooled Danishes.

Notes
