Equipment

  • skillet

Ingredients

For the Chicken

  • 4 pieces Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts Substitute with boneless thighs for extra juiciness.
  • 2 tablespoons Olive Oil Can substitute with butter.
  • to taste Salt
  • to taste Black Pepper

For the Sauce

  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder Can be replaced with fresh garlic if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon Onion Powder Omit if sensitive to onions.
  • 1 cup Chicken Broth Vegetable broth can be used for a lighter version.
  • 1 cup Heavy Cream Substitute with half-and-half for a lighter option.
  • 1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese Freshly shredded from a block recommended for better melting.
  • ¼ cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Can substitute with Asiago or Pecorino Romano.
  • 1 teaspoon Dried Basil Fresh basil is preferable for brightness.
  • 2 cloves Minced Garlic Adjust quantity to taste.
  • 1 tablespoon Butter Used for sautéing garlic.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Pat chicken breasts dry and season both sides with salt and pepper. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat and sear the chicken for 5-6 minutes on each side until golden brown. Set aside on a plate.
  • In the same skillet, melt butter over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute or until fragrant, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
  • Pour in the chicken broth and bring it to a gentle simmer. Stir in the heavy cream and both the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses, mixing until melted and well combined. Add in the dried basil, stirring to infuse the flavors.
  • Return the seared chicken to the skillet. Let it simmer in the sauce on low heat for about 10-12 minutes, allowing the chicken to cook through and the sauce to thicken up beautifully.
  • Once cooked, serve the chicken hot, drizzling plenty of the creamy basil sauce over it. It goes wonderfully with pasta, rice, or crusty bread.

Notes

Optional: Garnish with fresh basil leaves for an extra pop of flavor and color.
