Equipment

  • Clear glass jar or plastic sensory bottle

Ingredients

For the Base

  • 1 jar Clear glass jar or plastic sensory bottle (with lid) Essential for containment; ensure it closes tightly for maximum freshness.
  • ¾ cup Warm water Acts as the gel base, allowing for a delightful bubbling effect with the oil.

For the Bubbling Effect

  • 2-3 tablespoons Vegetable oil Creates that fun bubbling action; adjust the amount depending on your desired intensity.
  • ½ tablet Alka-Seltzer tablet Optional, but it gives a spectacular fizzing addition that kids will love!

For the Visual Appeal

  • Food coloring (red, white, and blue) These colors will tie your craft to the spirit of the 4th of July; gel food coloring enhances the effect.
  • Glitter/star-shaped confetti/shimmer powder Adds magical sparkle to your jar; choose confetti that matches your theme for extra fun!

Instructions

  • In your clear glass jar or plastic sensory bottle, pour in ¾ cup of warm water. Then, add 2-3 tablespoons of vegetable oil and watch as they separate beautifully.
  • Carefully drop in your gel food coloring (red, white, and blue), allowing the colors to settle at different levels.
  • Using a spoon or stir stick, mix the water and oil gently. Avoid vigorous stirring; you want to blend them without completely emulsifying.
  • Optionally, add a sprinkle of glitter or star-shaped confetti into the jar for an enchanting touch.
  • Insert half of a fresh Alka-Seltzer tablet into the jar before sealing it tightly with the lid.
  • Keep your completed jar upright and store it in a cool place, away from direct sunlight.

Notes

Store your jar in a cool, dry environment away from direct sunlight to preserve its colors and refreshing scents for up to 3 months. Optionally refrigerate for a cool sensory experience.
